Welcome to Flying Frog Records! |
Flying Frog Records is an artist friendly music production, recording and sales collaboration specializing in jam bands. Our primary focus is the live performances of our bands. We promote and record them, produce CDs and music videos from them. We also work with our artists in the studio.
Jam bands in the Flying Frog Records family benefit from a unique partnership that offers them unprecedented profit from, and artistic control over, their CDs and videos. And no long-term contracts are required. We're together because we want to be, recording-to-recording, success-to-success. Additionally, our bands have the option to cash out future revenues from their recordings. Flying Frog Records has an agreement with Alternative Distribution Alliance, a subsidiary of Time Warner, for the production of CDs and music videos and distribution to the retail music industry. How does this collaboration feel to everyone involved? Liberating! The kind of liberating that keeps you close to home.

Butch Trucks here. It's a pleasure to welcome you to the new home of Flying Frog Records and also to answer everyone's favorite question, "What the heck is up with that name?'" ;-)
It's like this, when Duane Allman saw people sitting around regretting some aspect of their lives, saying, "if only I'd done this," or "if only I hadn't done that," he'd look 'em in the eye and say, "Yeah, and if a frog had wings he wouldn't bust his ass every time he jumped. Get over it." That's the legend of the flying frog.
While our company is too young to have a legend (yet!), we do have a history. Up to now I have regretted every recording deal I've ever been involved with. The major labels are not structured for bands like The Allman Brothers Band. I have wanted for some time now to do something about this problem and Flying Frog Records is my solution.
I see Flying Frog Records as an opportunity for me and other artists who feel as I do to finally have a voice in how our recordings are being presented; to be involved with other artists that have the same passion for music; to get the people who love to listen to and live this kind of music involved with us; the finally have NO REGRETS about how we and our music are being exploited, because we are doing it ourselves, as a family.

Butch Reflects on the Beatles

By Charles Passy
8 February 2004, The Palm Beach Post
A glance at the front page of The Palm Beach Post on Sunday, Feb. 9, 1964, reveals a Cold War-era world scarred by global tensions - in Cyprus, Cuba and beyond. And though no mention is made of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy two-and-a-half months earlier - even in a piece on the Kennedy family's visit to Palm Beach - it's hard not to read between the lines and see the story of a nation searching for solace.
But the real story of the day was waiting to be told.

From Drum Magazine August 2003
It's time to bust out your checkbook, because whether you know it or not, you're indebted to the Allman Brothers Band. Hailed as revolutionaries when they first arrived on the music scene in 1969, their countrified blend of blues, jazz and, of course, rock has been a crucial influence on multiple generations of musicians.
Originally pioneers of live jamming onstage, today the Allman Brothers are the masters. Every year they hold court over a sold-out series of concerts at New York City's storied Beacon Theater, and a visit to their 2003 run shows that it's as successful as ever, as they play to an impassioned audience of old devotees, young recruits and everyone in between. The vocals are smoky, the guitars ring true, and with two legendary drummers and a gifted percussionist, the grooves never let go. Song-bending and chop-challenging improvisation comes in wave after wave, and the crowd urges the band on like a group of Olympic athletes
